Employing nearly 115,000 people, Uptown plays host to nearly 20 million visitors a year, with just under 30,000 calling it their full-time home.
 
This central business district is broken into four wards and named for its geographic positioning. Filled with skyscrapers, upscale developments, and historic landmarks, the area is both walkable and contemporary.

Several posh dining options exist in Uptown. Local favorites include La Belle Helene, a refined brasserie serving French fare, beer, and wine in a soaring, elegant space. Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen offers farm-fresh Southern small plates with European accents. For a taste of the Mediterranean, head to Little Village Grille, featuring gyros, falafel, and other Greek comfort bites.
 
Uptown also features several central food hubs that have something for everyone, including 7th Street Public Market, the Epicentre, and Brevard Court / Latta Arcade.
 

Things to Do

Uptown houses many of Charlotte’s renowned art institutions, including the Mint Museum Uptown, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, and the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture. There’s also Discovery Place Science, a family-friendly attraction with science and technology events and exhibits, and the NASCAR Hall of Fame, a shrine to the history and heritage of NASCAR.
